Complex knee problems

Persistent knee pain, swelling, instability or a difficult recovery deserve a thorough assessment. Dr. Rick Verjans reviews your symptoms, previous investigations and goals. You can also attend for a second opinion.

Dr. Verjans does not perform operations. He provides non-operative assessment and treatment, and consults experienced knee surgeons or refers patients for a surgical opinion when needed.

Which knee problems can be assessed?

Examples include meniscus or cartilage problems, osteoarthritis, kneecap pain, instability and persistent symptoms during rehabilitation. Your circumstances and goals guide the approach.

What happens during the consultation?

We discuss how the problem started, your activity levels and previous treatment. A focused examination follows, with diagnostic ultrasound or further imaging when appropriate.

What treatment is possible?

The plan may include adjusting activity, exercise therapy and rehabilitation follow-up. An injection may be discussed when indicated. Persistent pain does not automatically mean surgery is needed; benefits and alternatives are considered individually.

When will a surgeon be involved?

If symptoms or findings warrant it, prompt discussion with an experienced knee surgeon is possible. The surgeon assesses whether an operation is appropriate and performs any surgery. Dr. Verjans provides non-operative care and follow-up.

What should I bring?

Bring previous reports and images, your medication list and information about your rehabilitation.
